There has been a village store, off and on, since the early 1900s. The Shop as we know it today is thanks to a group of locals who, in 2012, had The courage and ambition to fundraise and build a Shop for the wider community. The original Share Issue raised enough money to help persuade the National Lottery to contribute. Sited next to the Village Hall, the Shop is literally centre of Hopesay Parish. The Shop was craned into position and started Trading in April 2013. Now a well-loved fixture, the Shop servers an area 70 sq kms in the beautiful rolling countryside of Clun Valley.

Championing local suppliers, the Community Shop is a crucial cog in the local economic ecology. This represents a huge on-going achievement that has involved many volunteers from the local community and surrounding areas.

"The shop has come to mean a great deal to me personally. I have been amazed at the range of goods offered and the prices charged, which compare very favourably with many supermarket offerings."
